Day 3 -  The Fall of Man

Themes:

  • Sin

  • Shame and Guilt

  • God's Grace

Scripture:

Genesis 3

Overview

Having learned about rules on Day 2, families will learn on Day 3 about the consequences of breaking God's rules (sin). Adam and Eve's consequences for sin were pain in childbirth, distrust in marriage, and harder work for men. Additionally, though God created humanity to be unashamed, sin introduced us to shame and guilt, and hiding and blaming. Children will learn about the concept of "inheritance", and how all of humanity have inherited a sinful nature because of Adam's disobedience. At the end of Genesis 3 families will also discover that God covered Adam and Eve's physical bodies with animal skins, which points to the greater reality that God has provided a "spiritual covering" for our sin, which families will discover on Day 4.

In order to fully appreciate the fuller meaning of sex and marriage, we first need to understand the meaning of The Gospel, and in order to fully appreciate The Gospel we first need to understand the reality of sin. Comprehending the reality and affects of sin provides families with a better understanding as to why there is so much pain and confusion in the world around our sexuality, and why we can only find lasting fulfillment for our sexuality if God provides us with a spiritual cure, as will be explored on Day 4.
