In order to understand the meaning of sex and marriage, we first need to understand why humans exist. Day 1 lays the basic foundation of human existence at a high level, as described in the first chapter of the Bible. First and foremost we were each created by God, for God, to play a part in reflecting His image, and our God-given genders play an important part in reflecting God's image properly. We also discover in Genesis 1 that humanity was given a mandate at creation, to "be fruitful and multiply and subdue the earth". Learning about this mandate can help children better understand to their purpose both as individuals, and as members of an extended family.
