Overview

Having learned about the concept of symbolism, Day 6 will expound on an amazing symbol, as explained by the Apostle Paul in Ephesians 5, that marriage and sexuality were designed by God from the very beginning to be an beautiful reflection of Christ's relationship with his church. Through headship and submission (as the Bible describes it), a married couple communicate a "mysteriously profound picture" (Eph. 5:32) of the Gospel message, in that as a husband leads his wife through joyful self-sacrifice, he is communicating how Christ leads the church through joyful sacrifice, and as a wife humbly submits to her husband's sacrificial leadership, she is communicating how the church humbly submits to Christ's sacrificial leadership. As the family learns about this beautiful reality, they may better understand why God cares so much about marriage and sexuality and why He protects it's purity with specific prohibitions (rules). Marriage is not merely about our happiness, but more profoundly it's about God's glory and His gospel message on display.
